Images of the empty shelves at Costco, medical professionals dressed in hazmat suits, and up-to-the-minute coverage about the number of confirmed cases of the Coronavirus have all of us feeling a little off-kilter in recent weeks. In this workshop, we’ll present tried and true strategies for helping kids process and understand scary events and identify things they can control.
In this 45 minute workshop we’ll discuss how to:
- Put on our own oxygen mask first — anxiety, itself, can be infectious!
- Provide kids with just enough age-appropriate information to avoid overwhelming them
- Listen with empathy and use reflective listening
- Help kids see how they can be part of the solution by practicing good hygiene and finding ways to stay calm
