The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) today announced that registration is now open for the 2021 Maryland Family Engagement Summit. This year’s theme, Building Back Together: Reimagining Family Engagement, will feature keynote, Dr. Daren Graves. Dr. Graves is an Associate Professor of Education and Social Work at Simmons University and Adjunct Lecturer of Education at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
During this one-day virtual event, Dr. Graves will join other national and local experts to share research-based strategies for utilizing an asset-based approach when partnering with parents and families. Experts will also help prepare early childhood educators and providers to meet children’s ongoing academic, and social and emotional needs.
This year’s Summit will be an opportunity to re-establish trust and a deep appreciation for one another while ensuring a welcoming and nurturing learning environment for all children.
In its sixth year, the annual Family Engagement Summit offers innovative approaches to meeting the needs of parents and families while providing resources that support implementation strategies for providers. Last year, over 2,000 parents, superintendents, teachers, providers, program coordinators, administrators, and other representatives from family-serving organizations joined the conversation virtually to discuss “Birth-12 Equitable Family, School, Community Engagement” during the annual Family Engagement Summit.
“Every year, the Summit is very popular among families, educators, and administrators who recognize the importance of family engagement and seek a supportive atmosphere where they can exchange ideas,” said Ready At Five Executive Director Keri Hyde and Carroll County Public Library Director for Community Engagement Dorothy Stoltz, Co-chairs for the Maryland Family Engagement Coalition. “As we work to get some normalcy back in our lives and in our education system, we are pleased to offer this forum virtually to reimagine family engagement, which is more important now than ever.”
Sponsored by MSDE, the Maryland Family Engagement Coalition, and MAEC, the Summit will engage district leaders, administrators, teachers, parents, families, communities, and nonprofit partners from school districts throughout the State of Maryland. The 2021 Maryland Family Engagement Summit will be held Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021 from 10 a.m.-3:45 p.m.
