October is National Principals Month!
Join the Maryland State Department of Education’s (MSDE) Division of Early Childhood and the Office of Leadership Development and School Improvement as we thank the state’s principals for their leadership, dedication, and hard work, especially during these challenging times!
It has been difficult for both educators and parents alike as school districts across the nation adjust to various learning models amid COVID-19. Whether it’s in-person, remote, or a hybrid model, principals are responsible for supporting teachers and parents, while ensuring they have the resources needed to continue the learning process.
When schools reopen, they will be tasked with guaranteeing a smooth transition for both students and educators.
Principals will be responsible for addressing the fear, trauma, and grief both educators and families have experienced due to the loss of family members, neighbors, colleagues, teachers, and other loved ones.
Principals will be responsible for finding innovative ways of tackling the “learning loss” for the many children who lacked the resources to keep up with remote learning. However, one of the greatest challenges ahead for principals will be discovering innovative ways to create an environment that’s safe but still feels like, well, a school.
Every year, the month of October is the perfect opportunity to recognize the importance of developing and maintaining birth-12 partnerships among parents, families, teachers, providers, nonprofits, and community members to ensure children’s success throughout their educational journey.
Everyone in the community will have to work together and make a commitment to supporting children and families.
October is also an excellent opportunity to share best practices and resources that focus on school readiness, successful transitions, and positive parent-child relationships.
There’s no one more suited to make these connections than principals. This month, don’t forget to honor principals by saying, “thank you.”
This month, the American Federation of School Administrators, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals join parents, families, teachers, providers, community members, district leaders, policymakers, students, teachers, and school leaders to celebrate National Principals Month! Visit the “official” the 2020 National Principals Month website to select an e-card and personalize your message to show your principal how much you appreciate them here.
